Your colours wrapped around

When we first found out we were expecting a boy back at the 20 week scan, my mantra instantly became 'absolutely no blue'.  I will not be gender specific with this child.  I am going to dress him in all white or all the colours of the rainbow or a bit of both - but nothing inbetween.  Under no circumstances do I want pale blue anything.  I know, I blame those crazy pregnancy hormones, they have turned me into a fully fledged crank.  Anyhoo, I set about collecting all the rainbow coloured paraphernalia for the nursery I could find.

When I say nursery, what I mean is box room.  A very small space in our 3 bedroomed terrace in which it is practically impossible to obtain decent photographs.  Nevertheless, I've tried to capture some of the best bits to display here like a magnificent peacock plumage

A few essentials

Big sister's addition to the artwork.  She's obsessed with rainbows and unicorns at the moment.  Don't know where she gets that from.

Virtually everything from the above pics I found really reasonably on Ebay.  I really don't know how I ever managed without that site in my life.

Then I was fortunate enough to receive this fabulous retro alphabet picture from DotComGiftShop

Isn't it wonderful?  I had recently discovered DotComGiftShop and had made several purchases for my boudoir (check out those flamingo lights) and toy storage for the Little Miss, before they approached me and informed me this site had been featured on their blog and offered to send me an item to review.  I jumped at the chance to own this retro lovely as I already had my beady eye on it.  I think it completes the nursery perfectly.  Having already been a satisfied paying customer I was flattered to be approached and am more than happy to recommend their site, their range of pretty retro inspired gifts and the customer service.

So, that was the 'nursery'

Hopefully next time I blog I will have a new baby, something resembling a waist and a fridge full of blue cheese and pate, come on!

In Your Room

I thought I'd share some pictures of my shiny new boudoir - it's finally done - whoop

I finally have a chimney breast wall like a blank canvas, perfect for all the 60's kid pictures and various wall art I've collected 

I had such a narrow space for a bedside table that I had to use my imagination a little.   After some frantic internet searching I discovered the Tam Tam stool.  I'd never heard of them before but apparently they were all the rage in the 60's after Bridgette Bardot was photographed sitting on one.   Read a little more here.  The other thing I like about them, apart from the fact that they look like oversized game counters, is that you can pick them up dirt cheap and they look great.  Fits right in with my 60's theme

Flamingo lights

I found this rather obscure film poster on Allposters.  The clip frame was picked up dirt cheap online.  Not a film I'd heard of before but it looks right up my street.

Best document storage ever

I bought this plain lightshade from Ikea and covered it with an old pillowcase using this tutorial.  I must admit I am rather proud of it for a first effort

My curtains in all their glory.  I bought some giant vintage bedsheets on Ebay, wonder webbed them and got my mum to sew on some curtain tape.  Couldn't be bothered with lining them as we already have blackout blinds for when the babs is sharing our room

There is no order in my room

At the moment I am stuck in renovation hell.  The master bedroom is currently in the process of having a false ceiling fitted due to the existing ceiling becoming unstable.  This follows hot on the heels of 6 weeks of fitting out the attic and a full replastering of the bedroom walls.  Needless to say my home looks nothing like the above picture of fragrant vintage darling Pearl Lowe in her perfect vintage bedroom in her perfect vintage home.  My house is dust ridden and in a continuous state of upheaval, putting paid to my increasing urges to nest. 

I am trying to overlook my personal frustration by focusing on the end result.  To that end, I have spent many a spare hour on Pinterest, Tumblr, Flickr etc, seeking out inspiration.  Those of you who have followed this blog for a while will know I can't resist a bit of bad taste.  The look I am aiming for could be described as 'kitschy boudoir stripped down' or 'kitschy boudoir lite' if you will.  I want the best of both worlds.  I want flamingos and lurid 70's florals set against a backdrop of pure white walls and furniture.   I want clean lines and lightness accented with candy pink, turquoise and orange.  I haven't found any pictures that are exactly what I am after so I have put together a collection of images that have inspired me in different ways* Hopefully putting them together in one place might give me a coherent 'moodboard' to work from.

Any further sources of inspiration/links you think I might like would be gratefully received.  I can't wait to share the finished product with you.

Inbetween Days

So according to the calendar it's officially Spring.  OK in theory, but in principle venturing out with just a cardigan and blazer tells quite a different story

My sister bought me these books from one of her local old lady charity shops, don't you just love those.  One of them had a 50p sticker on - up yours Barnardos!

Scored this set of 4 Babycham glasses in a British Heart Foundation furniture shop.  They were originally priced up at £3 each but when I checked, the woman said I could have them for £3 for the set, woo hoo!

Ruby slippers with t-bars!  Unfortunately not in my size but they will be perfect for the Little Miss.  They are H&M overstock so still brand shiny new.  Come on high street, get it together and make these in adult sizes you muppets

Now, this is one of my favourites new purchases.  A cute little Fidelity record player in perfect working order

Only thing is since it's been such a long time since I've owned a record player I've kind've lost all my vinyl.  It was quite the eclectic collection too.  Everything from Marlene Dietrich to my beloved Cure and Sisters of Mercy, Bananarama to Roxy Music.  Dammit, I'm kicking myself now.  Nevermind, I've been contenting myself by listening to The Inkspots - my one and only piece of vinyl :(

This was the most expensive of all the purchases at £18, but I negotiated it down from £25 like a dynamite hostage taker!

I just love a bargain.  Can you tell?  The only time I mention what I paid for stuff is when I'm especially proud of it's cheapness!:D
