Headspace

Does anyone else ever experience a love/hate relationship with their blog?  My main problem is over thinking.  Do people actually want to read my nonsense?  Should I post less?  How do I keep things superficial and light when crazy stuff is going down?  Should I do serious more?  Should I do outfits more?  What do people respond best to?  Should I do more of that?  What direction do I want this blog to take?  Does anyone other than me actually care?  Flamin nora, I wear myself out!

Ah well.  That's why it's good to escape now and then I suppose.

These pictures were taken on day 2 of our time out weekend at the Lake District, in a village called Hawkshead.  I can't tell you how much I love this place

We had hot chocolate and home made cake in the quaintest little oak beamed tea shop, and wandered around the warren of alleys and medieval squares in the 17th century village

Then we gambolled about in the grounds of the church on the hill and took photos.  The views were fantastic.

Yup, more gravestones

I love how this pic turned out.  It reminded me straightaway of Sherlock Holmes' bad trip in 'The Devils Foot'

I was fascinated with this series growing up.  No wonder I turned out kinda warped! ;)

We met this little chap in someone's back yard on the way back to the car

All in all, the perfect place to not overthink!

  1. every single post you do I love, so just carry on being yourself. The places you visited look lovely and they are perfect for getting away from everything. I really really love the Jeremy Brett Sherlock Holmes, I usually try and watch it when the repeats are on. It's just the best, the production values make Downton look like Acorn Antiques. You look lovely in every single photo, carry on being you, I love it xxxxx
ps: my god that's a cute pony!

  2. I think everyone feels this way about their blog at some point. I absolutely love reading your blog! How amazing is it that you just get to walk through some 17th village? It looks so lovely!

  5. I love reading your blog and would be perfectly happy if you just carry on doing whatever you enjoy doing on it! (I know what you mean about over thinking though. Erk.)

    Also, those pictures are fabulous.

  6. I just discovered your blog and I really like it! These are lovely pictures, not that you can take a bad one in the Lake District. Looks like the perfect little holiday. Envious!

  7. It's normal and natural, I think, to ponder over the 'point' of one's blog. But, us humans have since the dawn of time felt a compulsion to document our lives. I doubt anybody will ever regret it. People don't leave nice comments just for the hell of it either. You write well and share pictures worth sharing, but it is always YOUR blog, and sometimes just thinking that is enough. People want to read it - isn't that great?
'Gambolled' great word, I'll try to drop that into conversation today!

Dreamy effect with the photos, makes me want to dress all feminine and twirl around reciting romantic poetry.

  8. Beautiful photos of the Lakes, Lucy, the effects you put on them make them even more atmospheric.
I don't think you should worry about what other people want from your blog. We are here, aren't we? Cos we like YOU. So you just have to do whatever you feel like doing, and we will travel along with you. I guess motivation will go up and down with blogging, but that's to be expected. I like the sense of blogs reflecting personality and experience - sometimes quiet, sometimes serious and thoughtful, sometimes frivolous and funny. It's all good! xxxx

  9. I love your outfit, especially with the addition of that scarf. I too love reading your blog. I love seeing your outfits, & the things you've found at op shops, & your gorgeous outdoor pics. I find that balance between sharing my real life & my love of vintage is hard. Sometimes I feel like I'm faking it when things are going to crap around me. But I do feel self conscious about being an open book too. Anyhoo just try not to over think, as we like your blog just as it is. Xx

  10. ahhh I know exactly how you feel! I definitely overthink when it comes to my blog, and it's nice to just breathe in and out and step back!

I love this post - the pictures are gorgeous - the only problem is now I want some hot chocolate! xo

  11. Lucy i love your blog just the way it is and if people didn't want to visit and leave comments they wouldn't. I know how you feel though when i came back after my break i questioned how much of me i was going to show due to the past problems but i know it wouldn't be me without me so to so speak. You have to do and write what is comfortable for you. Your trip looked really lovely iv enjoyed seeing the photo's. And yes to your question over at mine i use Modge podge. Have a great week, dee x

  12. I know exactly how you feel and I'm currently having the same thoughts myself. I've temporarily made my blog private until I decide what to do, I guess I worry too much about what people think and how people who know me in real life would react if they knew I had one, etc. Like everyone else has said, I love reading your blog so just keeping doing what you do! x

  13. I have those same blog insecurities sometimes, but just get on with it. Your blog is lovely, so you're doing something right. x

  14. You don't have to be insecure about your blog, it's at the top of my favourite reads!I think that everything comes out naturally, because it's all about you! Music, travels, clothes, art and movies,it's our Lucy to shine through her interests and I love it this way! Green eggs and ham is one of my favourite reads too, the illustrations are fabulous, they took you to an odd and fast travel page after page until you fall in the water! My kids are very fussy eaters, they enjoy the book, but never try new foods! The places you visited are amazing, the pony is super cute too and the outfit you were wearing is perfect!Your jacket is great!I never watched that Sherlock Holmes's series, it seems amazing, I'm really into his character and I enjoyed a lot the last version too: Sherlock!

  15. I totally know what you mean. I feel everyone has sodded off to Instagram and that because I don't possess a "cool" phone, I miss out as these people are also blogging less and less.

I for one flipping LOVE your blog so don't you ever DARE take a long blog break.

Your trip away looks divine, cake. Mmmmm. Love your pretty dress too.

  16. Do you know that I never ponder about the point of my blog! I just post what I want to and if people want to read it, well that's great and if they don't - so what! I like your blog just the way it is. I like your pics, your style (great red, white and blue going on today) and the sneaky peeks of your home especially your kitchen!!

  17. Lovely pictures, I know I've been to Hawkshead but don't remember it at all, it's a great excuse to go back next year. That little pony is so sweet and the dilapidated bench is wonderfully atmospheric.
The blogs I love are the ones which reflect the blogger's personality, which yours does. Jut be true to yourself, if you don't feel like posting don't and if you do, do. It's your own space, please yourself and the right tribe will stick around. xxx

  18. I like what Vix says above Lucy, it makes sense, if you please yourself that will attract the people who are on the same wavelength. I've only done a few blogs and I already feel like there is a lot more to it than I realised at first. I don't get time to overthink it really, which is a good thing, as I'd be sitting there forever doodling about with photos and sentences, but as it is I just have to fling it out in a big splurge when I get the chance. Sometimes though I get frustrated because I just can't get enough time to hone it a bit more. Your blog is an extremely good one, it's well written, thoughtful, with beautiful pictures, so you should be very proud of it. xx

  19. Now that outfit is adorable and you would have looked right at home with us hiking around not looking like everyone else in The Lake District! Don't over think your blog just let it be whatever you want it too. You always have such pretty pictures and lovely things to share, just keep on keeping on:)

  20. I enjoy all of your blog posts.
No matter what you post about there is always something that interests me.

I have felt like you are. And then I realized I started blogging to share about me and stuff I enjoy. If people don't like what I blog about (Well then they don't have to read it) *hehehe* I want to blog about what I feel like blogging about.

    Gorgeous photos Lucy
    That pony is so cute.
You look fabulous in red, white & blue.

  24. I defintely have a love/hate relationship with my blog. I worry about all the things that you do and then I just don't blog because I feel like I don't have anything to say. I love your blog and love seeing what you're wearing and the places you go and the things you buy from charity shops.
I love your outfit. That scarf looks great.

  25. Randomly clicked onto your blog on a links page, already love it and only just arrived! I am going through the feelings you posted at the beginning of this post, I just wrote a load of gibberish on mine!
I am also very happy about the Green Eggs and Ham (I do not like them Sam I Am) book, and your use of the word 'gambolling'. Need to slide that in to my life somewhere :)
    Off to explore more :)

  26. I ALWAYS think that with my blog, but I really do love reading what you have to say!

  27. What adorable pictures, so dreamy and inspiring !
Well same questions i do ask myself sometimes too... But i think the main reason for blogging should be to make you happy not others. And you should take that direction you like. There are no rules for blogging, if you are in mood to write a post do it and if there are days you're not then don't.
I think your blog is lovely and it would be a pleasure for us readers to see more of you !!! XX Tani

  28. You know, I've asked myself the same questions about my own blog. I think in the end, you've just got to let your blog be what it is, and it'll attract it's own audience.
