Candy Perfume Girl

Ugh, what a deplorable state of affairs is this British weather.  Sticky and humid with only occasional breaks between downpours.  What's worse is that it's just so darn gloomy, I can't stand it!  I am going to add my twopenneth worth to the list of UK bloggers who have been recently bemoaning the insane schizophrenic weather and the sartorial challenges it brings.  Sorry if it's getting tedious but seriously, it's like, July, it's meant to be chuffin' summer and yet it's impossible to dress to the conditions!

This is what I came up with for work yesterday.

Nothing exciting.  Pink, green and black with a splash of yellow.  Of course I was still sweaty and uncomfortable with that ever-present feeling of dampness that seems to just seep into your consciousness.  These were taken just after I'd come home during a snatched moment in which the rain actually stopped for about half an hour and there was even a tiny break in the clouds - just long enough for the sun to peep out and say hello.  I immediately ran into the back with my camera to capture this precious moment before it was over!

Bathed in sunshine, just for a moment

I wore:-

Shirt, skirt & beads - charity shop
Blazer - Primark
Tights - Next sale
Shoes & brooch - Ebay

Check out the beads!

I love the smell of creosote in the mornings

While I travelling to work, a woman got on my bus and sat just adjacent to me.  You know when you just get a good feeling about a person.  She was very polite and friendly and we exchanged pleasantries as we were the only 2 people on the bus (read - me late for work again).  Just before she got off she turned to me and handed me this

A sample of what happens to be my favourite perfume of the moment, Candy by Prada.

She told me she had a few of them in her bag and she was going to give them out to her friends but that she thought it went with my colour scheme.  I obviously thanked her very much and we said goodbye.  We even waved through the window at each other!

There are so many ignorant, thankless, selfish people out there, especially in the inner cities and especially on public transport, that its so easy to become jaded.  But here was a little token of kindness from a perfect stranger, just because.    If by any bizarre coincidence, the lady in question happens to stumble across this blog then thank you again, you made my day.  Hurrah for the kindness of strangers!

On an unrelated note, I have been waiting for a spell of dry weather to get out into my little back yard (where I'm posing in the above pics) and splash some pink paint about.  I'm determined to make the most of our tiny outdoor space.  My mum, sister and me have been collecting little colourful plant pots, twinkling lights and bits and bob to decorate it.

Some current inspiration

So any outdoor inspiration you can send my way would be lapped up.  All I know for sure at the moment is colour and faeries!

Have a lovely day

  4. I love your bright colours. You need them when the weather is miserable. That's sweet that the woman on the bus gave you a perfume sample. I tend to be a bit of a cynic so it's nice to know that there are still out there who are kind.

  6. Wasn't that lady lovely! I was given a £5 gift voucher by a lady in the queue in M&S once. I had never seen her before and never since, but it quite made my day.

  10. yay! Your colourfulness always brightens up my day! I must try prada candy - if it's sweet and girly I'll love it! Despite what people say London can be unexpectedly pleasant like that too.

  12. I love the pink and green with your hair, it looks killer! Yeah for random acts of kindness. I'm sure you were putting off some positive vibes, sometimes that's all it takes. I'll have to give Candy a smell. I love all your outdoor inspiration. Twinkle lights always add something special. I just put some pretty potted flowers out on the deck and love them!

  17. Ooh I love your outfit! You should def get the pink paint out in your garden. I got some tatty mirrors from the charity shop with metal frames and dotted them about in my garden too, hidden amongst the plants and they look like secret doorways into other gardens as the reflect all the plants back-they also make the space look bigger. Also how about bunting in oilcloth or something you could leave out? I love fairy lights too and those cheap ikea tea light lanterns. Can't wait to see what you do. Eileen xx
