I've noticed that this blog has had a lot of hits recently from people who have Google image searched "Paula Yates" and have come across this post I did as a competition entry way back at the start of this blog.
It got me thinking about why I like Paula and have always been drawn to and inspired by women like her.
It inspired me to share some of my other favourite charming, alarming blonde women.

Perhaps the ultimate icon of the tortured female persona?
I find the lure of the tragic blonde heroine just impossible to resist.
Who are your favourite women, real or fictional?

O,I love Courtney, and that Sid and Nancy movie was brillant!Haven't seen that in years!Actually,Courtney is in that!
ReplyDeleteI love the "charming, alarming" !! They ARE!
I seem to be drawn to the same types, not necessarily blondes though;Betty Blue is a character I find very appealing.Other fave women/characters for me are Anais Nin,Drew Barrymore,Eustacia Vye,Scarlett O'Hara....obviously I love Mrs Slocombe and Mildred Roper, and I also adore the mother in Upstairs,Downstairs.....there's probably a billion more,I'm am endlessly inspired by the crazed, the unusual, the downright courageous!XXXXXX
I'm glad you got the reference, ha ha. Marlene could definitely be in the list too. There are so many women I admire, not all blondes, there just seems to be a bit of a theme to my immediate choices. And thanks to you, Mrs Slocombe has become one of my icons too! xxx
DeleteIt's funny how you're just drawn to some people, I've always admired Joni Mitchell, Stevie Nicks, Grace Kelly and Debbi Harry. There must be something about talented blonde women!
ReplyDeleteEmma x
Stevie is definitely on my list too. I love your music choices x
DeleteFab choices, I know you're not the sort of gal to pick simpering little bitches. I love loud blondes too - I'm dying my hair uber blonde tomorrow! xxxx

DeleteI've a thing for crazy, couldn't give a damn women, too.
ReplyDeleteCourtney Love, Debbie Harry, Cher, Nancy Spungen & Paula Yates and Amy Winehouse, too.

Great collection of photos! I have always admired Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn. Also, characters like Jo in Little Women and Nancy Drew.
ReplyDeleteBrilliant choices!
ReplyDeleteFor some rather disturbing reason, a lot of people find my blog after searching for "burn victim girl" - not massively reassuring.
mmm, that is a bit strange! :)
DeleteWow this is such a fun blast from the past, and I am/was a fan of everyone here too. I had Babes In Toyland's albums (on cassette--eep), read the book about Nancy by her mother and Courtney's biography by Poppy Z Brite and yeah I have to agree Bette Davis was pretty fierce in Baby Jane!
ReplyDeleteBut picking just one favorite I don't know that I could do!
Well, I've just done some hardcore saving.
ReplyDeletePretty blog :)
