A Doll's House

Following on from our vow to not leave it so long between experiencing live theatre again, Mr N and I went to see an adaptation of 'A Doll's House' by Henrik Ibsen at the Manchester Royal Exchange Theatre on Friday night

You may remember from this post that we have visited this beautiful theatre before.  This time, I took more pictures anyway

The theatre is a sort of glass-walled capsule suspended in the centre of The Great Hall of the historic Victorian Cotton Exchange Buildings in Manchester

The adaptation was a good interpretation of the written work, an observation of marriage and societal norms in the 19th century.  The acting performances were solid but not outstanding.  That said, last time we were at this theatre we saw Imogen Stubbs, who is a hard act to follow.

"a woman cannot be herself in modern society", since it is "an exclusively male society, with laws made by men and with prosecutors and judges who assess feminine conduct from a masculine standpoint."

Henrik Ibsen

Of course, I partook of one or two pre-show goodies

(I didn't chomp on Mr N's foot)

An interval drinkie

I spy cake!

Horror of horrors, I have bought a pair of jeans, the ultimate wardrobe staple of the lazy girl.  I vow to wear them carefully!

And, yes, I've dyed my hair black and no, I'm not sure I like it :(

How was your weekend?

  1. I'm loving your black hair, you look so different but still gorgeous with the same cheeky smile. I love you in jeans, you and Vanessa Squirrel are fabulous ambassadors for proving jeans can look feminine and stylish.
Fantastic theatre and great choice of play. I loved the book so I know I'd love the stage show. xxx

  2. Your black hair is very pretty. And jeans and the lazy girl? Well count me in. I'm a lazy jeans girl and I'm not ashamed. I'm sure Nora would wear some very cool jeans if she were around today.

  4. I agree with Vix, I love how you've styled your jeans. The hair is gorgeous, I love it, but are you pleased? I hope so. I have A Level Curse so far as A Dolls House goes. It ruined it for me and made it so irritating. Maybe I should go see a proper production in a beautiful theatre! Glad you enjoyed yourself! Show off more of your raven locks soon! Xxxx

  5. Love the hair Lucy! It's so Dita Von Teese! I can understand you're probably getting used to it as it is a huge change from your red hair but at least you can always dye it again if you want another change :)

I actually don't own a pair of jeans, they are something I've never quite found suit me. All the food looks yummy! Hope you had a lovely weekend!

  7. Your pictures are always so gorgeous Lucy, you really bring your night out to life for us with them, and I love your new shiny black hair and your jeans, you look great in both. I should take tips from you and shake up my look more often and not get stuck in such a rut. I love that you do such cultured things too, you remind me I should be getting out there and doing a few more cultural activities myself! xx

You styled your jeans in a feminine and confortable way, when I feel lazy I love the look of a dress on a pair of trousers and it makes me feel better than a plain t-shirt.Have a wonderful week!
