Another Brick in the Wall

I've decided I like my brick wall background.

It came about by accident.  I wanted to get some outfit posts but everywhere in my house is so dark.

Goodness knows how I'll manage when the clocks go back and it's pitch black by 4.00 in the afternoon

Anyway, I dragged Mr N out into a back alley.  He thought he was on a promise until I handed him my iPhone and started pouting like a pro!

Check out the bricked up coal chutes

Looking at these pictures got me to thinking about dark alleyways, Victorian bricks, rows and rows of terraced houses, dereliction and decay...

Then I got to thinking about The Smiths

Which led me to Shelagh Delaney and A Taste of Honey

These pictures prompted me to to waste spend hours googling photos of derelict buildings and general urban decay.  I found this Flickr group of Liverpool buildings and wasted spent more hours looking through them and thinking about how good it would be to explore them all

I enjoy my little flights of fancy

Just a casual work outfit today, nuffin special

  2. I have been following you for a while now I want to ask what hair colour do you use, it is fantastic. I hope that is not too personal.

  3. I love this!! Those colours are wonderful. They really suit you and I'm envious of your boots! I love your backdrop. I grew up in a Victorian terrace house opposite a factory, but in a village. So like you I love our industrial past, especially old factories, there are loads in Wycombe. Have a look at some of the sites showing abandoned asylums in the UK, most of them have gone but only recently. Oh and I bet you love the video to Lullaby by the Cure! My ideal of Victorian decrepitness xxx
Ps, when can you come to London?!! I've got the best place EVER to show you
Pps, I still haven't posted your CD!! Sorry!!

    1. I have!! There's an abandoned asylum not far from where I work that I'm itching to explore. I'm glad I'm not the only person who is fascinated by empty decaying buildings. My other fixation is abandoned theatres and music halls. All that faded grandeur. And YES I love that Cure video. I don't understand why people find it so creepy! xxx

  6. Great!!I adore your brick wall and all the photos you find inspired by your photoshoot, especially the last one, I spent a lot of time looking at it, the characters facial expressions and features, the fog, the location, everything is so beautiful, I didn't know Shelagh Delaney, I'm going to travel on the net to dream more on his film stills..I really love to watch images, they tell me more than words and I often use them to express my feelings.
I'm glad that you post a lot of your photos, you are very beautiful and your taste is similar to mine, so you are always a great inspiration, your boots are amazing and perfect with the pink tights! I'm so happy that you are wearing my bag, I'm very satisfy with how much it looks like you, the hair colour is perfectly the same!!
    Love xxxxx

  7. Love your brickwork backdrop.

We live in a victorian terrace too and know how dark it can get. Although I do like the age of the house and its nooks and crannys and its general fall apart at the seams-ness about it! I keep meaning to do a post about where I live there are lots of gritty pictures and unexpected spots of beauty about our area. I would hate to live in a modern box to be honest.

Your dress is so cute you do find the most loveliest outfits. Love the tights and the boots too! and the cardi just sets of the look.

I loved the film Taste of Honey. Actually in my teens I used to love all the gritty kitchen sink dramas. Up the Junction, poor cow to name but a few. Loved Georgie Girl too. The outfits were so cool in that.

  8. Love this outfit and the colours on you - gorgeous. Goes really well with the brick backdrop too. And am totes envious of the personalised tote!

I don't mind gritty, I do mind grotty. There is a distinction in there somewhere!

  10. As everyone else has said, I love the background of these pictures! My mum grew up in a victorian terrace in East London and I love looking back through old family photographs and seeing all the old buildings. This is a great outfit, I love the colours.

  11. The brick wall is good! I would say that, I use ours (we back on to an old factory at the bottom of our garden) for photos too. Makes the model look all the more glamorous, I reckon!
We live in a Victorian terraced house too, and it's so dark in the winter. I'll just have to put my wellies on to get down the garden in the winter, and change into my shoes when I'm on the decking...
Love all the kitchen sink drama pics. And I love you in your gorgeous little frock and bright pink tights! And a personalised Edie Pop tote is always the most stylish accessory of all! xxxxx

    1. Your house and garden look lovely and full of character. Sheffield is such an industrial city. No wonder it spawned the namesake musical genre! I think our house is a Georgian era build. It still has some original features but not as many as I'd like xx

  12. I love an old brick wall, it was my main backdrop in my blog posts for ages until Jon shifted Gilbert! I grew up obsessed with those kitchen sink dramas and thought I was living the dream when I was 18 and renting the attic room of a Victorian house in a condemned terrace.
Mr N's done a splendid job of the photos and that vibrant and colourful outfit is much more you and suited to your personality! xxx

  15. Oooh I am enjoying that flickr group. All the boarded up houses make me a bit sad though :( I like this street though, I often get the bus past it: http://www.flickr.com/photos/radarsmum67/sets/72157629752805823/with/6904349740/

  16. I like the backdrop too. Myself and a friend used to scour the city in which we lived for good photographic backdrops xxx

  17. I loved all those kitchen sink dramas too Lucy, I think every Smiths fan did just about. Your wall makes me feel homesick too, funny how the colour of brick in a certain area reminds you of home. My hubby is Scottish and the first time I took him down to visit my mum he was convinced she lived where Coronation Street was filmed even though I kept telling the daft bugger Merseyside and Manchester are two different places. xx

  18. I love this dress, super pretty. I discovered a load of sites of derelict buildings recently, a group of photographers go round and break in, but not to do damage just to photograph them, they are just fascinating. I love the ones of asylums and hospitals, its just so interesting thinking about what the walls have seen and the people that have passed through the buildings. Check this out if not already heard of it, I get lost in it for hours! http://www.28dayslater.co.uk/forums/index.php x

  25. Oh you look fabulous in purple with the pink tights and I love the Edie-bag:)). Your hair is looking fresh and gorgeous too - glad to see that fella clicking away as you turn your lights on for the camera!! I adore that background so much and I've gone thru the Flikr pics with much pining to go adventuring in shabby, derelict buildings. I have background "issues" at the mo as my neighbour cut down the greenery along the fence line - I'll have to get inventive too:)) xo
