Quick interruption to normal services. I was innocently browsing the web earlier on and thought I would google 'Courtney Love' and see what she's been up to. Just lately all we seem to hear from Courtney is non stop torrent of drivel on Twitter and some rather tawdry tales about her unhappy family life. But, oh me-o oh my-o, I was not expecting to see this news article from the NME accompanied by the following pee-your-pants exciting You Tube clip
The mid 90's Hole line up we all know and love reunited for a 2 song set! They even played my favourite ever Hole cover version Over The Edge by the Wipers. I must admit watching this made me feel quite emotional. I saw Hole live in Brixton Academy in 1999. Never before or since have I experienced the same excitement and exhilaration at any musical event that I experienced at that one. I was 18 years old and OBSESSED with Courtney Love. I still remember it so clearly; the prop of a guitar that Courtney played about 3 notes on before abandoning to get up to her usual antics, her pink fairy outfit, the crowd of adoring fangirls who, encouraged by Courtney Love, managed to fight their way to the stage and sit rapt at her feet, the guitar she gave away to the "fat" girl because she used to be one. It's a night I will never forget.
Sadly, in time, it all seemed to fall apart and the axe fell on that chapter of the band in 2002. I won't mention America's Sweetheart!
Come on guys, get the old band back together. Do it for the (now grown up) kids! I promise I will start buying all your albums again!
Watch and bask in nostalgia! Thank me later :)

Thank you so much Lucy, you made me live a beautiful Love experience, it's the right way to start the day!!
ReplyDeleteI like how embarrasing she always acts, the NME article is a proof, I want to be like her, the girl with the most cake..
♥!
It's a shame Courtney Love didn't turn out to be a continued inspiration for our generation, I was mesmerised by her, like you in the 90's. I agree, get the band n back and show the youth what a proper girl band is. Up yours, The Saturdays!
ReplyDeleteTotally agree. She let us down big time. I still have a soft spot for the old days though x
DeleteI get 100% singing Celebrity Skin on Rock Band and I do love Courtney. My friend has modelled his whole apperance on her, I linked him to your post so he can see the reunion clip too.
ReplyDeleteGood for him! All of the male friends I've ever had have hated Courtney Love and therefore won't listen to her music.
DeleteI interviewed Courtney back in the day, when I was a music writer and she called one of my friends (another much more high profile media person) a c*nt. Ah, the good old days!

I'm pretty sure I'd hate her if I ever met her. I wouldn't want to!
DeleteShe gave her guitar to my friend Liz and Liz have her a painting of Courtney.
