Fancy & Footloose!
OK, so if you're over the age of 35 or below the age of around 25-26 you probably won't have a clue what I'm talking about. Keypers were one of those big toy fads in the 1980's, around the same time as Rainbow Brite and Jem. They were plastic animals with a lockable compartment that came with a key, hairbrush, ring, bracelet and a Finder (a little thing with big eyes that glowed in the dark).
They originally released 3 varieties
Fancy & Footloose, Tango & Twist and Shelldon & Nitelite
My friend had Shelldon (the purple tortoise) and I always really liked him cos he seemed bigger, but I opted for Fancy in the end, probably because she was pink. Made by Tonka between 1985 and 1990, they went on to release more variations and blinged up versions of the originals, I however, only had eyes for Fancy. The other day I just had an urge to do an Ebay search for my old friend, and lo and behold, I found this near complete set. I just wanted to own it, so I bid, and here it is. So there! Cue eye rolls from Mr N. Well loved and played with but just as I remember it. It brought a smile to my face.
Any other 80's kids out there have one of these? Remember the advert?
Next, I need to track down a Big Yellow Teapot
What are your toy memories?
Lucy x
I had one of these but I seem to think mine was a pink swan, very similar to fancy! Second trip down memory lane for me tonight on blogger!
ReplyDeleteOoohh you've just brought back memories!! I'd completely forgotten about those!! I do remember the little care bears and My Little Ponies though, I still have a box of around 40 1980's My Little Ponies which my daughter loves to play with now! Aahh The Big Yellow Teapot - I actually sold one on eBay last year, all complete, and it made £40.00! I was shocked! Kind of regret selling it now as my little boy would probably have loved it when he's a little older. Thanks for taking me down memory lane, I love your blog xx
ReplyDeleteI remember Jem and Rainbow Brite (and Victoria Plum and all that)but I have no recollection of those!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, YES! Now I'm looking up more toys..lol That's awesome that you won the complete set! :D XO
ReplyDeleteHehe a tad before my time but it's adorable. Pound puppies were my favourite as a kid! xx
ReplyDeleteAhh i don't remember these but that is so cute ;-)) it was cindy and pippi dolls for me and my roller boots which i still have all 3 ;-)) dee x
ReplyDeleteRoller boots are so much better than roller blades. I had bright blue and yellow ones!
DeleteI had fancy and footloose too!!! And my sister and Tango and Twist. I think I actually wanted Shelldon cos anything to do with moons and stars was highly desirable to me as a child. Do you remember Glo-Worms too?!
ReplyDeleteI do! Never had one though
DeleteI showed this to my boyfriend and he was horrified by the "little brain thing living inside the nice old lady snail"
DeleteThese are wonderful...yikes mine were Breyer horses with my barbies... I loved them!
ReplyDeletethese are so cute!
oh wow! I had all three and a jigsaw too. I loved them but had forgotten about them until I came across your blog and saw this!
ReplyDeleteOMG I have not seen/thought about these in years!!! I really really wanted one when I was a kid but Santa brought me a Jem doll instead. Wow the childhood memory floodgates have been opened. Does anyone remember Girls World? And also did anyone else collect the trolls with the long coloured hair?? They were pretty ugly looking but EVERYONE in our school collected them. Thank you for the memories :) x
ReplyDeleteI love Keypers! I remember the commercials playing on t.v. and me thinking "THOSE ARE SO COOL I COULD HIDE MY SECRETS IN IT"
ReplyDeleteI have Tango I found it at a thrift store about 5 years back and HAD to buy it!!
Call me spoiled, but I had all 3! Shelldon was my favourite because he was purple. My purple popple was also my favourite - do you remember them??
ReplyDeleteI still have my Shelldon and Nitelight! Shelldon's shell has gone from purple to a orangy-brown though.
